Happy Hour App

A beautiful mid 70's day. Nothing but sunshine. I'm starting to worry how the temps will play out in September. I don't want to worry about how many days I have left for flip flops and shorts but the thought has crossed my mind.

Taking off for the State Fair around 4pm I've been told. Local favorites playing tonight besides the Whiskey Belles are the Boogie Men and King Solomon. Tropics at the Fair is my favorite bar at the fairgrounds. Wisconsin's State Fair is a bit different than most fairs from other states that I've been to. Should be a good time tonight!

Author James Patterson wrote an opinion piece for CNN today regarding Amazon. He sells a lot of books and maybe he should leave it at that. I had to read it three times to figure out what he was talking about. I thought maybe it was just me but reading the comments section a lot of people felt that way.

The Kevin love trade to Cleveland seems to be a done deal now. It had to be the worst kept secret in sports.

Key West has a new app for visitors and locals alike. It's called the Happy Hour App and it costs 99 cents. It connects you with updated happy hour specials at over 70 bars and restaurants. I'm wondering if other cities are following suit or maybe they exist and I don't know about them.

I'm famous for having very few apps on my phone. I've never actually bought one. I just use the ones that come with the phone and I actually paid full price for the very first IPhone when it came out on the market. I will get this one before I go to the Conch Republic again. Finally, something truly necessary and useful!

Ripping Up New Brady Street

A beautiful sunny day in Milwaukee today. Coco and I went for a run then played some soccer. He starts school again in two weeks! Luckily, they get a fall break but they are the first school back in session again this year.

Florida is in the middle of hurricane season once again. Actually, I was stunned to discover that it's been almost 9 years since the Florida coast has been hit by one. So far, they've only had two slight threats this season. It's predicted that the El Nino conditions in the Pacific Ocean will take the lackluster off any Atlantic storms.

It looks like we're going to the State Fair tomorrow around 3pm. I'm told the Whiskey Belles are indeed playing. I'll be sure to hit the reggae lounge also.

The Waterfront was a restaurant in Covington, Kentucky that was actually a floating restaurant that opened in 1996. It served many a famous people including Michael Jordan. It had been hit by boats, barges and ice yet remained with a better record than the Titanic. Until yesterday when it sank in the Ohio River for unknown reasons!

The newly paved Brady is less than two DAYS old and looking truly remarkable. I walked to Walgreens and there's a construction crew ripping up the road to work on a manhole in the middle of Brady Street. Really????

The East Bank Trail

It's a steady stream of mid 70's for the rest of the week with nothing but sunshine. I didn't know that was possible in the month of August.

Work continues on Brady Street today. It was supposed to be a one day project but yesterday's rain took it to tuesday. They are scraping off the top two inches and repaving it. So far it looks great!

It looks like Tropical Storm Bertha lost some steam after hitting 80 mile per hour winds. It's always a relief when these burn out before picking up steam and turning into a major hurricane.

Coco is on his way over. I smell some soccer in my future tonight!

I took a walk over to the East Bank Trail down by the Milwaukee River. The whole area is becoming better each year and they are building a park on the west side of the river. I took a few pics. Not sure what the Batman sign on the tree was all about. Maybe he's watching the area for criminal activity!

Ball Bearings and Brakes

The rain held off until about 3pm. It was a beautiful day until that point. We haven't made it to the State Fair yet in West Allis but it looks like they are drawing decent crowds from the news coverage.

A correction from yesterday's blog. The Whiskey Belles weren't playing yesterday at Iron Horse. It was a very nice R & B band. The last set was rained out so we took off for tacos!

James Brady passed away today. He was President Reagan's press secretary who survived a gunshot wound to the head in 1981.

Congrats to Javier Baez who just was called up from the minor leagues by the Chicago Cubs. He had a terrific spring training but the Cubs kept him in the minor leagues so he could learn to play second base as they already have an All-Star shortstop in Starlin Castro.

Toledo, Ohio is having a problem with their drinking water. No surprise as this is becoming a pattern throughout the United States. The Toledo Mayor has now said the water is tainted but safe to drink. I saw it on the news and the water is Kermit the Frog green and that's no exaggeration. I don't know who the mayor is. Whether it's man or woman, republican or democrat, this person needs to be gone as no one should have to drink green water. Toledo is in need of a problem fixer not a blind eyed pollution denying hack!

This sunday is the 21st Battle of the Bars in Key West. It's a bar team competition with proceeds going to charity. Bribing the judges is very much allowed and those bribes go to charity also. Maybe Congress could learn something from this event.

Krissy took the day off to get some emergency work done on her ball bearings. Turns out she needed work on her brake lines also. It was a long day and she just walked in. I better get grilling!

The Esquire Channel

I'm not sure how long the Esquire Channel has been around but it does have some very original programming. This morning I spent a couple hours watching 'Running of the Bulls 2014' from Pamplona, Spain. It's actually covered just like a football game. Instant replay and interviews with two co-hosts. It's been my lifelong dream to run that 902 yard path thru the streets that Ernest Hemingway made so famous in his legendary book "The Sun Also Rises."

We just hung around the backyard last night grilling out and chilling. At night with the solar lights and hanging lanterns it's truly a cool looking backyard. We aren't done Key Westing it up yet!

Tom Petty has a new album coming out. I'll always call them albums forever and this new release is " Hypnotic Eye." So far the critics are giving it a good early review. I've never had the chance to see him in concert yet but next time he plays Summerfest I'll pay for some good tickets.

Congrats to RFK Jr. on his wedding yesterday. I met him at Marquette University in 2004 for a book signing and he was a very intelligent and nice guy to speak with.

We're off to the Iron Horse to watch the Whiskey Belles with John and Angela. It's only a 30% chance of rain this afternoon so I'm sure we're doomed!

Holy Facebook

Apparently Facebook went down for over twenty minutes yesterday and some people actually called their local police or 911. It was so bad that some police departments sent word via twitter that it's not a law enforcement issue. Why am I constantly stunned by asinine stupidity?

Naturally we went to Barnacle Buds last night to eat outside because the local weather forecasts were 0-5% chance of rain. I imagine you can guess who got rained on by the 5%! It was fun though because the back bar is open air with a roof so we just ate at the bar in front of a sign that said 'Jake.'

My book is progressing steadily as I've finished 4 chapters. It's less than 10% of the book though so it's still a work in progress.

We woke up and watched "Charge of the Light Brigade" starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland from 1936. Olivia is still alive today and just turned 98 years old on July 1st. Of the 8 films they made together this one is far from my favorite but still good.

I'm going running now then doing some grilling. Have a safe and fun saturday night!

Pray For Buffalo

A decent start to August until the rain came at about 3pm. It's clearing up again so we shall see. I didn't start my new workout program with some running in the park followed by pushups and situps.

Katharine the Shark did have it's baby and is now out in the Gulf of Mexico. As you recall she has a GPS chip and every time her dorsal comes to the surface a satellite can tell you where she is. It seems strange that we can track a shark from space but we can't find an airplane sometimes.

We watched "The Butler" last night and it certainly was a great movie and I'm a tough critic. For the most part, it doesn't seem like we've come very far in the last 50 years. Maybe I watch too many talking heads on cable and the country is a nicer place than it's portrayed by them.

We're heading to Barnacle Bud's on the Milwaukee River for happy hour and some food tonight. It's a hard place to find. You go down some winding gravel road by a marina and then take a hard left to get there. It's actually hard to believe that it's in the city. It's very secluded and nestled back by the quiet part of the river.

The last thing the NFL needs is another big mouth attention loving hog of an owner. The Buffalo Bills had a first class owner who passed away last year. He ran the franchise as best as he could and they did go to 4 straight Super Bowls. Now the team is up for sale and Donald Trump has moved onto the next round selected by the NFL management. Please, don't bequeath this idiot on the good people of Buffalo!
